marc212
I have a '64 with a 4 speed. The transmission pops out of second gear unless I physically keep it in place. What is the fix for this? Thanks.
Avanti83
Initially, you need to be sure it is going all the way into second. Best to check by pulling the rods off the transmission arms and seeing if the arm will go farther. If that's ok then the news is not good, time for some internal work - rebuild. lschuc
It sounds like the bushings at the bottom or sides of the shifter are worn. I am assuming that you still use the original shifter, which was made by Ansen... same as what Chevrolet used at the time too.
brad
popping out of gear is usually an indication of 1) either an out of alignment bell housing, or 2) too much endplay caused by wear on the thrust washers, 3) miss adjusted shift linkage, 4) oil soaked motor mounts that are deteriorated .
