Seems to be the logical place for it.
Agreed. Just not visible unless your head is under the dash like mine was changing instrument light bulbs.😆
I wish there were owners manuals for these N&A Avanti IIs

Why not clue others as to where that switch is located....
Certainly. It is under the dash to the left(drivers) side of the light over the console

If it is connected to a potted box, Turn on your wipers and see if it acts as a variable speed for them. I have one that does that.
Well, the build sheet says it has intermittent wipers but it does not seem to and the knob does not seem to affect them. It has one speed and if you turn the wiper knob further clockwise, it seem to act like a rheostat and varies the speed a little
Doesn't seem to affect the dash lights either

Perhaps fader for rear speaker.
Could be but someone has installed and aftermarket unit in the glove box so who knows.
Thanks

My 1980 has 2 toggle switches and a rheostat type knob near the hood release. One switch is for the power antenna. One is for the power door locks.
Any idea what the knob does?
Thanks
-
Well, it turns out there already was a toggle switch installed. I just never noticed it before.
Thanks

Is there a way to turn on the dome lights without opening the doors? Maybe a silly question but so far, I can see no switch to do this

I've bought these:
- Red for instruments: BA9S 4W 12V 8.5X28 RED 1232RK
- White for indicators on instrument panel like indicators: BA9S 12V 4W 8.5X28 T4WÂ
- White for indicators on instrument panel like indicators: BA9S 2W 12V 8.5X28
- Interior lights: BA15D 10W 12VÂ
I thought you said that you used regular red bulbs. THese all look like LEDs. Am I missing something?

Did you use THIS bulb? don't use any other ones as they are not going to be bright enough. BA9s LED Bulb - 5 SMD LED Tower - BA9s Bulb | Super Bright LEDs
Those are the ones i bought.

I just used old red bulbs. Works great, enough light to read the gauges. Do you need the specs?
That would be nice. Thanks

I just put in those LEDs from Superbright and so far, they aren't any brighter. Maybe worse. I do like the red color though

Congratulations. Post some picture when you get it home. We like pictures!😀

What kodjo said is good advice only I removed the speedometer first to create my first big access hole

So am I correct in assuming that the 1981 and up cars with a 305 and an th400-4R used a different drive shaft than the earlier cars with the 350 and 5400 transmissions?
What does this TV cable do?

Because it's SBC powered it probably has a TH350/400 trans in it. If so, a 700R4/4L60 or 2004R (overdrive units) should knock about 8/900 rpm off it. My 83 came with a 700R4 OEM.
You would need to add a TV cable, modify the rear trans mount (move) and shorten the drive shaft.
I was told by another owner that the 200-4R would drop right in without and mods to the drive shaft. Anyone?

TV cable??

Could be that the thermostat is stuck open

I have done it with the seat in and suffered for a couple of days afterwards. Advil days!🤣

Well, I drove my 1980 home to Georgia from Cincinnati today. 500 miles. No issues but 3000 RPM at 70 MPH seems high. Looking to get that RPM down.
Everything on the car working great except the clock.

Both my old original and the new one have the float oriented toward the passenger side of the tank

Avanti ll's that did not come equipped with glass or plexi headlamp covers (on many years they were optional equipment) would also not be equipped with the rectangular diecast chrome outer frame that retained the covers.
So, to install headlamp covers on an Avanti not so equipped you would need 2 glass (or plexi) covers, 2 outer chrome or painted frames, 2 headlamp cover rubber gaskets , and (possibly) 8 longer retaining screws!.....The outer frames and headlamp covers on 'square light' Avantis are interchangeable left to right.

Thanks. Just got through installing the covers this evening

Thank you!

I have replaced my sender without any problems. Is it not the tank itself? The side planes can make noise under fuel load while cornering.
It could be the tank itself and I just never noticed it. If i just put the car in reverse or drive and move a few feet, I can hear it for a few seconds.
It does have a stainless steel tank that was installed by the previous owner. Made to the original specs.

It is an extra switch next to the light on my car. I am used to ones incorporated into the light itself like you said. Everything Avanti seems to be just a little bit different.😉
