355 lbs............

3/32".......and wasn't this a change to not only the R series engines, but also the 259 and 289?
-
Look at the fuel pumps.........the R2 will have a fitting for the boost reference, and the R1 will not.
-
Well, I sure agree with Gary when he says "I hope not........"!
But I am going to say false. Here is my reasoning - you would not be able to prove that a continental kit was never installed on one of the many Studebaker Avantis, Avanti II's, etc that were built. So obviously you found one example of an Avanti with a continental kit installed. Looking forward to the picture.

I'll say false. In fact, I think it was the same up thru maybe 1985.

Hmmm........never saw mention of this, but that doesn't mean anything. I'm gong to say false, because 12 psi would be an awful lot of fuel pressure to the carb under non or low-boost situations.

False. It was because the Lark had a metal body and did not need the shielding.

Isn't that the "other" Avanti considered to be the 'Ricky Nelson Avanti'?

Ed, I tried to send you a message via this forum earlier this week, but I got an error message that you are unable to receive any messages. Not sure why, maybe you have reached the limit in your message inbox?

Was this possibly owned by singer Ricky Nelson? Seems like there were two Avantis claimed to be Ricky's, this one and another with a serial number several hundred higher.

The very first issue of Collectible Automobile had a very long and great article on Avanti by Richard Langworth, and included a multi-page interview with Blake. I read that whole Avanti article, including the interview, numerous times! Anyway, I remember that Blake said there were 14 shareholders. So I'll say #3, fourteen.

128 according to Arnold Altman.
-
I'm going to say black......we know there were some black Avanti steering wheels floating around South Bend when the plant shut down. I think Bob Doehler used one on his Avanti.
-
George Krem tabulated the Avantis built with 3 speeds, seems like about 65 the first year and 10 or so the second year (estimates only, can't remember the exact numbers 😊)...............so I'll say #3 - 67 in 1963.
-
I'll say false.......the Avanti was meant from the start to be a 'sporty' image car, and three-on-the-tree was old man car stuff in '63.
-
Hmmm........taking a stab in the dark........did it depend on whether the R3 was installed in South Bend, or at Paxton Products?
-
.......the idle speed & mixture screws.

(2) Ansen. We only WISH they had been supplied by Hurst! 😊

Are you talking about R5642 which supposedly had some sort of rear axle upgrade?
Speedy Avanti!

I'll say 5 mph.....................too bad they didn't call that famous Studebaker racer Ted Harbit to prepare that R2, the difference might have been much higher!
