That's it!....not discontinuing the model altogether.

In the year 1961, what 'Studebaker related' subject did Sherwood Egbert and Brooks Stevens agree on, against the advice of some other Studebaker management people?
-
That small wood piece you found....Things like that only found in hand-built automobiles!....VERY cool!
-
Welcome!!...And best of luck with your Avanti 'chase'.....You really can't find a more exotic "Attention Getter" for the money than an Avanti!!!
-
TRUE is correct! (and good point on the L&R rods...to be honest, I didn't think about that!)
-
TRUE it is Charlie!
-
I'm 'on board' with the 3X2 setup..IF it can be squeezed under the stock Avanti hood!
Reasons?....3X2 carb setups have great 'eyeball appeal'....and....Nothing sounds as nice as when the front and rear carbs open up when you 'floor it'.....You just CAN'T beat that 'Howl'!!!!!
-
All I can say is it only takes 4 minutes to remove the grate and restore the car back to stock. Way too easy.
Looks like it will do the job to me!
-
Excepting for the ones used in R3 and R4 engines, all '51-'64 Studebaker V8 connecting rods are the same.....True?
-
A starting motor for a '73 Avanti will not interchange with one from an '83 Avanti......True?
-
All good guesses!...But I'd say they had to use the sidemount blower setup on the Lark's to accomodate the R3 carb air chamber. (or box)
-
A neutral safety switch for a '63 Avanti will interchange with one for a '63 Lark (w/powershift) but not with one made for a '63 GT Hawk (w/Powershift....True?
-
Agreed!
-
Actually the answer here is FALSE....Although the two transmissions do share the parts you mention, the '57 trans had an entirely different tail housing, to accomodate the two-piece driveshaft used in '57.
Now, had I specified 1958 Golden Hawk........................!
-
Probably not,....because they could have fed cold air to a 'topmount' blower if they had chosen to.
-
I'm not sure what Paxton sent you.....But I DO know that I love 'inside' stories like this from folks that were there!!......VERY interesting!
-
Nope, the 'top mount' (R2 style) supercharger was higher than anything on an R3 Avanti sidemount setup!
Any other thoughts?
-
Partially correct!.....It meant color of CARPETING!!
-
Agreed!...same blower...I'm not even sure that the pulley was different unless the 'high output' pulley set was ordered....Answer...FALSE!
-
Yes, agree, a cold air intake is a good thing, I even did one for my R1 and noticed it lessened pinging on a hot day. Since my battery is in the trunk, I used a GM air cleaner from a Cad Eldorado and ran the hose up and out where the battery was.
However, a cowl intake also puts the considerable noise right up there in the passenger compartment. I wouldn't do it for anything other than Bonneville.

I'm strongly considering this ..as I have most everything on hand to make the change.
I'm not too concerned about ingesting water into the blower....for one thing this is definitely a 'fair weather' Stude!
Cutting the approx 4" hole in the skirt really KILLS me,...but I'd save the cut out piece, which could always be fiberglassed back in I suppose.

I was wondering if any of you '63-'64 'R2' Avanti owners have ever altered your cars by installing the Studebaker 'R3' style supercharger air intake system?
This places the location of the air filter assy down beside the radiator, and out of the engine compatrment.
This would require cutting a large hole in the right inner fender skirt, but sometimes I think that getting the air intake away from all that engine and engine exhaust manifold heat might be well worth the effort.....especially in the summertime...............Opinions welcome!
-
Also want to welcome you to this forum!...And yes, '63-'89 Avanti doors do have that 'Mustang Style' vent window adjuster. Like Warren55, I recommend you obtain a copy of the Stude Avanti factory shop manual for body related issues.
-
On a 'Blake' Avanti order form, what does 'Philadelphia Allusion Cafe Au Lait" refer to?
-
Aside from the shift pattern, the Avanti's 'Powershift' transmission is essentially the same automatic trans used in 1957 Golden Hawks.....True?

I've also heard about that Avanti....At one time it had tons of extra chrome under the hood, and all the underhood wiring was concealed.
Can you give us any idea of the current condition of the car......and the asking price?
