  1. In a 1963 HRM road test of a (non A/C) Studebaker Avanti, the tester stated that he was quite comfortable in summertime Los Angeles heat by keeping the side windows rolled up and leaving the vent & quarter windows open…. I guess MEN WERE MEN back then!!!!!!!!! PS…. Or was it just that the earth was cooler ????
  2. Happy Birthday to you Aardvark!
  3. It’s good news you’re back! About that question you were asked concerning two Avanti designers… You answered Loewy & Bunting… You weren’t wrong, however, I’ll bet they were looking for names of ‘original’ Stude Avanti designers… Loewy, Andrews, Ebstein, & Kellogg……. Yes-No?

    Paxton Option!

Yes guys TRUE… very few were built this way.. a carryover from the McCullochs …Bad deal if owner didn’t keep engine oil clean.
  5. In 1960, Paxton Products offered short nosed centrifugal automotive superchargers in both self contained and direct oiling form…. True?

    Avanti #28!

Before the #28 Twenty Four Hour of Daytona Avanti race car was built, Steve Blake figured the ‘in house’ construction cost would be approx ……?……. 1) $9,000…..2) $13,000…3) $17,000… or…..4) $22,000

    Speedy Stude!

I don’t think I’d want to be in the car at that point… but yes, 65 MPH is the answer! (According to Bill Carroll’s evaluation of the #3 Bonneville prepped Studebaker Daytona.)

    Speedy Stude!

Yes, that engine would be revving up quite high, however 55 MPH isn’t the answer!

    Speedy Stude!

Great looking R3 tach… thanks for posting! However 60 MPH is not the answer!
  15. A 1964 Studebaker Daytona, equipped with the optional R3 engine, four speed transmission, and 3.31 rear end ratio, was/is capable of an honest …..?….. MPH in first gear. 1) 50…..2) 55…..3) 60….or.…4) 65
  16. Any brake fluid under the car?… kind of sounds like a rusted steel brake line blew.
  17. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the cat if you plan to eliminate the air pump….. The system needs all of its components functioning to work as designed… If you eliminate the air pump, you may as well as change over to a factory style, much more efficient, true dual exhaust system, as one would find on a circa 1968 Avanti ll… It will bolt right on.
  18. Any good auto body & paint supplier in your area can photograph a pre cleaned area on your Avanti with their color camera, which can formulate a solution that can then be used to mix any amount of paint you desire.

  21. I’ve changed out heater cores on three (?) Avantis, but not lately! Cannot think of anything you’ve missed… but do you have an Avanti workshop manual which you can refer to?
  22. Lew’s the man!!
  23. Thanks Lew….Way over my head!!
