Someone else is wasting your time. In all probability you’ll continue to hear the same things from the same individuals. If you stop creating or participating in discussions out of concern for what someone else might say, then you’ve allowed yourself to be controlled by another person. You’ll have been silenced or bullied. That’s not a positive outcome. One option is to exclude certain posts from appearing on your screen. The other is to simply not respond. In my experience, the former is more effective. It’s also necessary to accept that others will see the posts that you do not see or respond to which could make you appear weak or timid, when in reality you’ve become more powerful. Currently you’re caught in a trap over semantics and emotions when the topic is car values. And I’m going on about something unrelated to car values as well. We can do better.

I think the go-to guy for that would be Dan Booth at Nostalgic Motors.

Summit Racing sells a new manufacture Quadrajet that should drop on with little adapting. Q-jet Edelbrock carbs are excellent as well but I would suggest pairing one with one of their Performer RPM intake manifolds. These are specifically designed for their square-bore carbs and will enhance torque and hp over using an adapter and save overall height.

MFG. No. It was Manufactured and sold as a Product. You / I can glamorize or Love the Product as we see fit but it is a conglomeration of parts Factory Assembled and then sold. I do Love me some HP and these Cars are quite a unique item.. That said, they are a Product. In my case a heavily desired Product. Just call em what they are,, then add Your own twist to it. I keep saying I'm done.... but keep getting challenged on my opinions.

As I’m sure you know, the factory tilt wheel option on ‘64 Avantis is quite rare. That same tilt mechanism is more commonly found in early ‘A’ series Avanti ll’s. I’ve never worked on one, but I think that GM used the same unit in mid sixties Buicks, Olds, Chevy, etc. I’d guess that if you can source a shop manual for one of those vehicles it would give you the info you need in depth… Good luck!

Folks, I’m working on a 64 Avanti with tilt wheel. The cable from the turn signal mechanism to the switch is broken. I can get a new cable, but there is no where in the shop manual, that I can find that gives a description of how to replace it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tom

I believe that Avanti ll’s through 1985 would share the same basic heater /defroster system as the ‘63… I have a ‘73 parts car that could supply the complete underdash heater housing (less heater core)

According to an article in the fall/winter 2024 AOAI Magazine, 117 fiberglass pieces is not the answer…. Any other thoughts on this question?

I also like the new Edelbrock AFB’s with electronic choke…. and there are inexpensive adapter plates available to install the ‘square bore’ Edelbrock onto a stock Chevy ‘spread bore’ manifold.

The number I’ve seen most often is 117…though other numbers has been bandied about.

Speaking of the last two Studebaker Avantis produced….R5642 & R5643…. Only R5642 was a ‘special ordered’ car….. True?

The original Studebaker Avanti fiberglass body was made of …..?….. separate pieces. 1) 97…..2) 117…..3) 129….or…4) 145

We all have are own reasons for owning an Avanti…. However, your calling it a “PRODUCT” was a bit much… don’t you think?

Skip.. I started the thread to invite opinions. It turned into a pissing match which is sad to see those in this forum degrade themselves while disrespecting others. I'll think hard before wasting my time entering opinions with low expectations of future childish crap.

I believe both you guys are on to this… concentrating on the reworked shroud is the key here!… Well done! The actual answer to this trivia question is …False… Because in addition to the reworked fan shroud, a 1/4” filler panel or ‘shim’ was needed between the top radiator mounting and the reworked shroud to give just enough fan clearance.

Ive owned a few of the Avanti II s but never worked on them much. I know they did jack the body up off the frame at the cowl about two inches maybe a little less but that would end up being more up at the radiator. As for the radiator shroud I would think, like Zedman, that some tweaking would have been done at the radiator shroud but I could be wrong.

Actually, I think forum readers like to see a bit of feistiness and ‘agreement to disagree’ (hopefully)…. It keeps the old heart beating and the old blood pumping….. The only reason all of us look at and sometimes participate on this or any automotive forum, is the basic love for the vehicle (or “product” to some!!) in question…..AVANTIS!!!! Zedman… Happy Holidays!… The 2” came from a pretty knowledgeable Avanti restorer… but I included “about” to leave some wiggle room….. But assuming “about 2” is correct, would you say TRUE or FALSE to this question?
