1963r2
A short question on the engine bay colours. Have we gained a general consensus on whether the engine bays on the 63 Avanti were painted body colour, black, or either depending on how someone felt on the day? My 63 would appear to be black from factory but who knows what happened prior to my ownership. pb
studegary
Black, if the Avanti started life as a black car - I know, a W.... A.. answer, but cars do change colors over the decades.
mfg
Definitely body color from factory!......Any chance the paper factory paint code tag is still attached to the bottom of the glove box in your Avanti?
1963r2
Thanks for the replies. The car was originally Avanti Gold and you can work through the layers of paint back to the Gold, however when it gets to the engine bay there was no sign of Gold just black. I will go and double check. pb
Jolly-John
Body color....on my very original '63 White Avanti. Logic should also tell us that the factory wouldn't take the time or the materials to mask off the engine bay area, and paint it in black, compared to simply shooting it in body color, as part of the overall exterior paint job. 1963r2
Thanks I have had a good look and can see traces of Gold paint under the black in the engine bay. Body colour it is. Thanks for your input. Pb
