An inexpensive way to improve coolant flow in Chevy V8 powered Avantis is...............?

1) Change water pump.........2) Change thermostat.......3) Change water pump pulley diameter........or.......4) Increase engine idle speed

The water pump. Nothing will flow until the thrermostat is open. Changing to a bypass thermostat will make a small change. Changing to a large bypass opening in the water pump will make the largest change.

Good thought,....however that's not the most inexpensive way!:(

Anyone else have any thoughts here?

#4 Increase engine speed.

Sorry no, although raising the idle speed will increase the speed of the coolant, it doesn't really help flow.............

The answer here is #2, changing out the Chevy 'narrow neck' (mouth opening) thermostat to a 1968 Cadillac 'wide neck' unit (which fits the Chevy manifold and thermostat housing), will improve coolant 'flow'!:)
