mfg
The usual criticism of using urethane basecoat/clearcoat exterior paint on 'stock' Studebaker Avanti's (and pre-'84 Avanti ll's), when officially judged at major auto show concours, is that the paint job is.......?........ 1)Too shiny.......2) Too smooth.......3) Not original factory spec.....or.....4) Slightly off color
studegary
I think that it is a combination of 1, 3 and 5) does not give the appearance of lacquer alone with a top coat that is practically transparent.
63R1388
I'm gonna say "too shiny". As an antique car guy, the modern urethane paint colors have a sparkle that no "vintage" paint possessed.
lschuc
All of the above !!
mfg
Lew and Gary are likely correct in saying any of the above choices could be 'called out' by field judges, however I believe 63R1388 has 'nailed' the criticism that is mentioned most often.....#1.Too shiny! (Frankly, I'd like any of my Studes to be called 'Too shiny'........but, in high end 'stock' judging, original is original!)
