mfg
In the official program of the 1962 New York (new car) Auto Show, Studebaker-Packard announced their new fiberglass sports car will be a rival for Ford's Thunderbird.......True? studegary
False. I do not think that it would be at the 1962 show. 1963 Avantis did compete with 1963 Thunderbirds (as well as Corvettes) for new car sales. My sister shopped both and bought a new Thunderbird. Gunslinger
I think the Avanti's true competition was...(drumroll)...the Studebaker GT Hawk! They were each aimed pretty much at the same target market. One could also include in the target market the Pontiac Grand Prix, the Buick Riviera as well as the Ford Thunderbird. All were aimed at the as-yet unnamed "personal car" market.
