mfg Posted September 9, 2017 Report Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) Due to the Hi-Performance nature of Studebaker Avanti "R" series engines, heavy duty '4-pole' starters were/are standard equipment in all of these engines......True? Edited September 9, 2017 by mfg
r1lark Posted September 11, 2017 Report Posted September 11, 2017 I will say true, although I usually refer to them as having four field coils. But normally, the number of poles in the armature match the number of field coils I believe.

mfg Posted September 15, 2017 Author Report Posted September 15, 2017 ANSWER.....The answer here is FALSE!
studegary Posted September 15, 2017 Report Posted September 15, 2017 You posted it before I got to answering it. The four field coil/pole starters were a running change. (May 9, 1963 Service Letter)
