mfg
The 1963 Studebaker Avanti wheel cover was actually derived from the 1955 Studebaker passenger car 'full wheel disc'......True?
studegary
Sort of true. It was derived from the 1953 wheelcover which the 1955 cover was also derived from.

Yes,"Sort of true", however the answer here is actually FALSE.....The Avanti wheelcover was derived from the original 1953 full wheelcover....The 1955 cover was simply another variation of that original '53 cover. Counterpoint: The 'original' 1953 full wheelcover had the 3 'bars' radiating from the center round design element -- to represent a Tri-Star. This hubcap design was then modified at some point to make the 1954 wheelcover without the 3 bars. The Avanti hubcap does not have these three bars. So........it seems more reasonable that the Avanti hubcap was derived from the 1954 full wheelcover, not the 1953 design. Pics are below. mfg
Point taken Paul...and thanks for posting those photos............ To me however, the 1954 Studebaker full wheelcover was the first variation (modification?) of that original (gorgeous) 1953 full wheelcover.....The 1963 Avanti wheelcover was the second variation of the original 1953 Studebaker full wheelcover design.
