mfg Posted May 20, 2017 Report Posted May 20, 2017 A few Avanti ll's were built in 1965, however, the first 'production line' Avanti ll's were officially 1966 models......True?
r1lark Posted May 20, 2017 Report Posted May 20, 2017 True. I've always heard that '65 was used for engineering/prototyping, and the first 'real' production Avanti II was in '66. Plus I have a 50% chance of being right.......
studegary Posted May 20, 2017 Report Posted May 20, 2017 I say false. I think that there were 56 Avantis for 1965.
r1lark Posted May 20, 2017 Report Posted May 20, 2017 Well, when I saw Gary's post, I figured I'd "heard" wrong and looked it up. TheAvanti.net says there were a significant (they said 45) number of Avanti II's built in 1965. Now, whether Nate considered all of these cars built in 1965 as "1966 model year" cars, I couldn't find that. So........I don't know. Let's see what others find.

All '65 Avanti ll's (actual production figures vary greatly), should be considered prototypes.....Dealer/customer ordered cars were '66's, hence the 'production line' moniker!

All manufacturers produce new cars that are not filling dealer or customer orders. These cars for stock are not prototypes. They are sold as regular production.
