A few Avanti ll's were built in 1965, however, the first 'production line' Avanti ll's were officially 1966 models......True?

True. I've always heard that '65 was used for engineering/prototyping, and the first 'real' production Avanti II was in '66. Plus I have a 50% chance of being right.......:)

Well, when I saw Gary's post, I figured I'd "heard" wrong :) and looked it up. TheAvanti.net says there were a significant (they said 45) number of Avanti II's built in 1965. Now, whether Nate considered all of these cars built in 1965 as "1966 model year" cars, I couldn't find that.

So........I don't know.  Let's see what others find.

Answer to question......TRUE!

What do you base this statement on?

I pulled out John Hull's book and he states 56 Avantis for model year 1965.

All '65 Avanti ll's  (actual production figures vary greatly), should be considered prototypes.....Dealer/customer ordered cars were '66's, hence the 'production line' moniker!

All manufacturers produce new cars that are not filling dealer or customer orders.  These cars for stock are not prototypes.  They are sold as regular production.
