mfg
To achieve the best possible 'performance' from a Studebaker Avanti's steering gear, the steering gearbox must be adjusted as outlined in the Avanti factory shop manual.....True? r1lark
False. To achieve the best steering, after adjusting the box per the manual then you need to be adjusting the power steering control valve........... I know, you were not talking about power steering because not all Avanti's had power steering.

Paul, you got the answer right, (false) however, the reason you gave (although a good one) really isn't "it". Any other thoughts here?

(Just plain guessing now ) And a good guess it is!!!.....However, the true answer here is that normally, the specs in a factory shop manual should be followed 'TO THE LETTER'!..... In the case of the Studebaker Avanti though, Studebaker issued a service letter in May of '64, with revised specs, requesting that the original specs in the factory shop manual NOT BE USED!!..........Answer...FALSE!
