mfg Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 What part of a Studebaker Avanti steering wheel was/is usually the first to fail?
mfg Posted July 21, 2016 Author Report Posted July 21, 2016 The bush at the end if the steering column. Yes those nylon bushings 'went south' rather quickly....but I was referring to the steering wheel itself, not the entire column.
mfg Posted July 24, 2016 Author Report Posted July 24, 2016 Mine cracked around the chrome rings. Those steering wheels definitely shrunk and cracked around those rings.....but something else went south MUCH sooner! HINT....this item(s) is in plain sight when sitting behind the wheel!
63R1388 Posted July 25, 2016 Report Posted July 25, 2016 You wouldn't happen to be referring to the black plastic bezels around the horn buttons??
mfg Posted July 25, 2016 Author Report Posted July 25, 2016 You wouldn't happen to be referring to the black plastic bezels around the horn buttons?? You bet!...Those little buggers deteriorated and fell apart very early in many Studebaker Avantis lives........CORRECT answer!
studegary Posted July 27, 2016 Report Posted July 27, 2016 And here I thought that you were referring to the NUT behind the wheel (attached to the steering wheel at two points)
Mike Sal Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 Are those little bezels available? Mine are deteriorating to the point where they fall out loose while driving. Mike Sal
mfg Posted July 28, 2016 Author Report Posted July 28, 2016 I believe that Studebaker International carries them.
