I am trying to determine what color the carpet should be for my Avanti Red R2 (63R-2302). I thought it was red/black due to the carpet on the bottom of the door cards.

The production order states the interior vinyl should be fawn/elk.

I was surprised to see that fawn/el was not offered with red/black carpet. So the carpet must have been changed at some point. (The spare tire cover also is covered with red/black carpet, and I know that is not correct!)

Is there anyway to know what color it should be? Or just pick which color scheme (1, 2, or 3) I like?

Thanks!

Yes, I'm afraid that red/black carpet at the bottom of your interior door panels really doesn't belong there.

It should be fawn/black.

( It looks nice to me though, and if you already have the matching floor carpet,...I'd go with it!)

No... the carpet at the bottom of the door panels should be the same as the interior carpet on the floors. 1963 Avanti models have the speckled carpet, fawn or elk and black; red & black; turquoise & black; or Orange & black.

Beginning with all 1964 models, carpets were all one color.

This is contained in the Avanti production data book sold by the Studebaker National Museum, and will also be noted in the forthcoming Avanti Authenticity Manual.

Exterior color determined carpet color. Avanti Red with the Fawn/Elk interior would have come from the factory with black carpet.

No... INTERIOR color determined carpet color. Your 1963 dealer color chart shows multiple color choices for each exterior color... some more choices than others. But this is for 1963 models.

1964 models all had black carpet.

Lew,

For 1963 models exterior color helped to determine carpet color. Not all Fawn/Elk interiors came with black carpet.

Avanti White with the Fawn/Elk interior came with Fawn and Black carpet.
