Avanti Steering!

The '63 Lark had a 'modern' recirculating ball Saginaw steering box. The '63 Avanti and '63 Hawk had a somewhat antiquated Ross cam lever steering box.

The Avanti did have a rag joint installed in the shaft between the box and the steering wheel, but really don't see this as a 'standout' mechanical difference.

Good point on the steering box Paul...but they both served the same basic function.........

You hit the 'nail on the head' with RAG JOINT.....a major change, (IMHO), from the solid steering shafts of the past!

You can still be impaled by the column shaft. I know of at least one Avanti fatality from a steering shaft.

That's a completly different subject brad,.....but thanks for the info!
