mfg
During the Avanti era, what did Studebaker like to call its factory trained dealership mechanics?
Gunslinger
I believe they were called Avanti Specialists or Avanti Service Specialists. I'll hedge that by saying it could have been Avanti Service Technition. They were given a special patch for their uniforms.

r1lark
"Avanti Service Specialist"......... This is based on the attached certificate given to my Grandfather after completing his training. Does anyone have details as to how this training was conducted - was it all done in South Bend, or where there various locations around the country that held this training? mfg
A Studebaker Corp. service letter from August of '62 called these factory trained (in Avanti) Studebaker mechanics "Avanti Custom Service Specialists"...... But I believe Paul's grandfather's certificate would overide that........so,........ "Avanti Service Specialist" it is!..(Correct Gunslinger also!) r1lark
I'm in the process of digitizing photos, slides, and snippets of film strips related to my family's Packard/Studebaker/Mercedes dealerships for a possible Turning Wheels article. It just so happened that on the day mfg posted this trivia question, I had digitized the attached certificate! As mentioned above, if anyone has details as to how this training was conducted (was it all done in South Bend, or where there various locations around the country that held this training), I sure would like to know. There are several color slides that I believe my Grandfather took during this training, and would sure like to determine what the location was.
