Blazest Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 (edited) Shocks: After A LOT of reserch I've decided on KYB front shocks for my 1980 Avanti for the part numbers that fit a 1980 Chevrolet Corvette. I'm going to double-check the dimensions and mounting style, but I'm told that in most cases, these will fit and perform well. If you want absolute certainty, consult Avanti or Studebaker specialty suppliers (as usual), but many Avanti owners use Corvette shocks with great results. They're supposed to be better at handling the extra weight of the Chevy 350 engine. I haven't tried them yet but will in the next two weeks and get back to y'all. Any thoughts on this? Also, I need a pair of sway bar end links but can't seem to find anyone who knows what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology. Edited January 27 by Blazest Additional info
jccatwb Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 I replaced my shocks on my 1980 with Rock Auto in expensive shocks. It was a huge improvement. And getting rid of those abomnable Korean tires and replacing them with Coopers made a world of difference. The purpose of a shock absorber is to absorb shocks, not transmit them to the driver! (extra weight of a 350 ???) They modulate spring rebound--they shouldn't be so stiff as to prevent spring function!
Blazest Posted Monday at 08:00 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 08:00 PM After talking with Bob at Avanti Parts I decided to go with Monroe shocks all the way around. He says the 350 is not an issue is a bit lighter than the original Studebaker engine. I also found out that my car does NOT use sway bar end links. In my case, they only need the bushings replaced; the brackets they go into are not rusted out (southern states car) so I will use them again.

Torsten Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Hello everyone, I am writing from Germany. I am currently restoring my Avanti. Among other things, there is a problem with the rear height of the vehicle. It is much too high. When it is on the ground, the leaf spring is practically straight and the pivot bearing is completely folded back. Is this normal or is there an incorrect leaf spring in there? Does anyone have a picture of how the situation should be in its original condition? Edited 1 hour ago by Torsten
Torsten Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago (edited) 235/60 14 However, with a size close to the original, 205/75 15, this would be exacerbated because they have 50 mm (2") more diameter. Edited 1 hour ago by Torsten
