During the SEARS-STUDEBAKER transcontinental record run, the only way the Avanti's occupants could quickly contact New York, South Bend, or Paxton Products in California was via the public telephone......True?

True, that was years before the "brick" phones and I don't believe they had their ears on with CB's (also a little early for that popular craze.) They most likely had chase vehicles with them though.

Thie cross-country Avanti was equipped with a radio-telephone for 'instant' communicaton.

The 'crew' was thus able to communicate with South Bend, the chase car, and radio and newspaper reporters.
