mfg
Why did a few buyers of new Camaro/Firebird based Avantis, (for example a 2002 model), find it difficult to register their cars in some of the states around the country?
Gunslinger
Because the VIN decoded to a Pontiac Firebird. I had no problem registering my '02 as an Avanti as the MSO (Manufacturers Statement of Origin) stated Avanti. Other states have different procedures. Maybe I was just lucky. mfg
That's RIGHT!....Glad you got through that OK....An SDC friend of ours WENT THROUGH HELL trying to get his brand new '02 Avanti registered here in Mass because of that confusion. studegary
For the 2001-2007 Avantis there is much confusion on this. The main problem is that the VIN viewed through the windshield is that of the donor car and not the Avanti VIN. Some of these have been titled/registered as Pontiac/Ford, Avanti or even homebuilt (or some variation of that, like a kit car).
