Hole in body in front of fuel tank.

I noticed that there is a rather good size round hole on the floor in front of fuel tank. It's in the same location side to side as the fuel tank outlet hole but larger. Was there or is there a plug or cover for it. It's getting covered with something. It was like an expressway for the mice who thought building a condo complex on top of the fuel tank was a great idea. It was a really good thing I decided to take the car apart even though it only has 39k. Fuel tank would not have made it in a few years.

I noticed that hole also. I don’t remember why it was there but I put about five layers of aluminum duct tape over it as I’m sure the ice would find it and walk right in.

I thought the hole was there for fuel lines but it never got used. I guess it was used as a vent for the tank but ended up rusting the tank out and the rear seat.

I would think a watertight vent would be a good idea.

Is there an exterior vent in the tank area. The vent loop that goes up into the body, does that vent outside the car?

The vent loop you are describing vents the tank to the outside.

The large hole in the middle can be plugged with a metal or rubber body plug of the same diameter. I used a metal plug to make it less likely for a mouse to chew through it. The smaller hole to the right of it is where the gas tank vent tube passes through the body.

The rubber section of the vent tube that goes up into the body and back out, is that just looped up in there or fastened. It doesn't seem to be loose in there. I'm sure it's hard and I don't want to break it off in there.

It's looped inside the pillar and held with something like a clip. When I replaced my vent hose I cut the visible ends just below the pillar and shoved it up inside the pillar to get it out of the way. If I ever remove the interior lining of the pillar, I'll remove the clip and cut portion of the hose.

My vent tube was rock hard and to touch it was to break it, I tried to replace it, had no success trying to get a looped piece of hose up in there. What I did instead was to use malleable copper tubing two seperate pieces, when I got them up to the access hole I used a short piece of rubber tube to make the u. It worked out fine, no need to sucure it as it cant move once the rubber tubing is on.

Yah, my hose is still pliable. Not like it's brittle. Think I'll use it as is.
