Rear bumper extension

Just curious, was there an extension for the rear bumper, extending the bumper out a few inches.

 I happen to see a 63 Avanti on Ebay, located at Gateway Classic cars in Texas. The bumper was definitely farther off the body and it appeared to have some kind of blocks and straps on the sides.

No factory rear bumper extension….. ever……..

(Bolt on rubber rear bumper guards were factory installed on later Altman Avantis)

Not sure we are on the same page,  but rubber shims between the body and bumper are normal to fill the gaps for both front and rear bumpers on the sides.

The shims are identified as 1805-3 for the rear bumper and 1805-9 for the front.

There should be two vertical bumpers  labeled as 1807-3 with rubber cushions on rear bumper.

No, not the rubber shims…..I believe the poster is speaking of supplemental brackets extending the entire rear bumper face bar rearward, away from the body.

the picture that was posted sure looks weird. what were they thinking.

I wonder how the sides were secured.  The lack of a bolt there, would chance them to bounce and scratch the paint..  Any more pics or is the Ebay thing still active?

......aha   just saw it... ( rear end bump protection/projection)  but the question remains...

I’ll bet the mod was done by somebody who was sick of his cars getting ‘rear ended’, and decided to risk bumper damage but save the body itself…..Definitely interesting, however, I doubt if this modification will catch on!!

Mfg, pulled my clutch shaft today. Mine was factory brazed. Might tack it anyway, it’s out. 
Is the contact surface on the two fingers flatter. Enclosed pics.
Any idea how thick a new disc is. Manual says each face is .135, mine measures .133 and total width is .333.
