aardvark Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 (edited) Hey guys. I looked in my Power Steering canister and it's very low on fluid. So I went to the Shop Manual and was curious what type of Fluid it took. The Manual says ATF Type 2. This is very uncommon and the only source I'm finding for that Fluid is BMW at $50 a quart....I gotta believe Y'all aren't using this fluid and can suggest another option. I also want to add a little "stop leak" into the mix. Suggestions?? Edited September 13 by aardvark
Leo B Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 I use Red Line Power Steering Oil. Have used STP Power Steering also. I think all suits which says "Power Steering Oil". The price is not important because my Stude Avanti is not cheap and deserves good oil.😀 Red Oil is compatible with petroleum's and synthetics so you dont need to worry to clean whole power steering. if anyone has other recommendations or I'm wrong, please correct me. Just now Im planning to install filter to inlet.
aardvark Posted September 13 Author Report Posted September 13 Thanks Leo B. I'll check into them. The big question to me is what's the difference from type 2? and yes, the cost isn't an issue.
64studeavanti Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 not sure where you got type 2. my workshop manual specifies type a suffix a on page 4 of the lubrication section. I believe a substitute is dexron.
