Concerning the front engine mounts of a Studebaker Avanti...what item will sometimes fail on high mileage cars  or on cars driven hard or raced?

(not referring to rubber items or frame)

But there is one item in particular!

Pretty good answer, but not the one needed here!

The bracket on the engine.

You got it!...this might be a rarity, however I've seen this twice....The lower 'ear' or 'leg' of the L or R engine mount bracket (bolted to engine block) can fatigue and break off.....

When this happens, although the bracket is still bolted to engine by the two top bolts, it will twist allowing engine to drop around 1" on the broken side....This situation can also tear rubber motor mount apart.
