Yep!... improved oil flow back to pan..accomplished in a variety of ways.

PS...I really shouldn't have said  "chronic problem".... oil return to the pan wasn't  a problem at all in day- to-day normal passenger car driving.

High rpm use was another matter!

This problem was corrected in mid 1961 production for V8 engines.

Studebaker used a smaller oil passage in the rocker arm shafts to restrict oil to the top end and a larger drain hole in the heads to get the oil back to the pan more quickly.

Correct..these mods enhanced the Avantis high speed potential...Other oil related modifications occurred when the 'R' series engines were introduced!
