mfg Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 What chronic problem in the Studebaker V8 engine did Stude engineers solve when the 'R' series of V8's was introduced?

mfg Posted January 25 Author Report Posted January 25 PS...I really shouldn't have said "chronic problem".... oil return to the pan wasn't a problem at all in day- to-day normal passenger car driving. High rpm use was another matter! .
regnalbob Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 This problem was corrected in mid 1961 production for V8 engines. Studebaker used a smaller oil passage in the rocker arm shafts to restrict oil to the top end and a larger drain hole in the heads to get the oil back to the pan more quickly.

Correct..these mods enhanced the Avantis high speed potential...Other oil related modifications occurred when the 'R' series engines were introduced!
