Rick Allen
Tags from a 289 '63 Hawk, I know the 3.31 is the ratio but what is the 43-13 on that same tag and what is 45C indicate; and is it a dana rear and is it the same unit (except for different ratios) that was used on the Avanti? 64studeavanti
43-13 is the number of teeth on the ring gear and pinion. 45C refers to the type of "twin traction" posi lock.
Dwight FitzSimons
I guess this is obvious from 64studeavanti's response, but 43 divided by 13 = 3.31. --Dwight
Rick Allen
Took more pictures today, little hard to read but it's a Dana 44; is this a rear used in Avanti?,,,
64studeavanti
Can't tell much from those pictures. Avantis used Dana 44, however, Avantis had mounts for traction bars welded on. If this axle is from a GT, you could weld on the traction bar mounts and used on an Avanti. Rick Allen
Thanks for your reply. Did non-TT Avanti rears have mounts for traction bars or was it just for the TT rears?,,,
64studeavanti
All Avantis have mounts for traction bars. I also believe that "package" (R1/JT, R2/JTS equipped) Larks and GTs did as well.
