mfg Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Why was the Studebaker Avanti's hood hinged at the front...instead of at the rear, as was common practice on all other Studebaker passenger cars?

Gunslinger Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Simplicity and safety. It was a simpler setup and if the hood released at speed it couldn’t blow up blocking the driver’s view. Servicing was easier as well.

A couple of other reasons are 1) Room.....it would have been pretty difficult to fashion a latch plate over the Avanti t radiator/shroud. 2) And the designers were probably influenced by the Chevrolet Corvette-Ford Thunderbird hood opening!
