Does anyone have knowledge or experience in removing a stock radio from an Avanti. My car is a 64 R1, and I need to remove it and have it repaired. Experience is always important, and I have heard some stories about being able to take out the unit through the speaker on the top of the dash, but I obviously don"t want to damage anything or get stuck in a situation I cannot get out of.Thanks for any TRUE LIFE EXPERIENCES.

You won’t get it out through the speaker opening…too small an opening.  Does your car have a/c?  If not it should come out from underneath.  If you have a/c then you have to remove the dash.  Get the shop manual if you don’t already have one.  The procedure is pretty straightforward and not that tough.

I got mine out thru the dash speaker grille. Not too difficult, you just have to remove all the knobs, washers, and nuts on the front of the radio. I would strongly suggest you kill the battery to avoid getting shocked by a hot wire.
