How common is it for the fiberglass to crack out around where the window crank mechanism is? Thanks

It's quite common on the Studebaker Avantis...Even more so if the car is equipped with power windows.

Thanks for the information, I guess if it is common there is a fix for it?

I have seen where a steel reinforcement plate was fabricated. I have a couple of doors so equipped. I will post pictures in the morning

On the SDC forum, someone has a couple of newer door shells for $200 that are stronger in that area. Will deliver to Reedsville or South Bend. Seems like a bargain to me.

Thank you all, I might need the repair, will be looking at a car that both sides are hard to operate, manual mechanism.

Thank you, I see the cracks in the fiberglass. I hope it won't come to that, but you never know. I think I would re-glass it also, and use Stainless, Aluminum, or Galvanized.
