mfg Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 Studebaker redesigned the air filter housing on 1964 Avantis equipped with the R2 engine to achieve two things......What are they?
Gunslinger Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 The housing was lengthened to better protect the filter and openings to increase airflow through the filter elements.
mfg Posted December 27, 2014 Author Report Posted December 27, 2014 The housing was lengthened to better protect the filter and openings to increase airflow through the filter elements. Good thoughts....But not the reasons.
mfg Posted December 28, 2014 Author Report Posted December 28, 2014 No other opinions concerning this question?
brad Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 It was redesigned so it sucked cooler air, and not right off the exhaust manifold.

mfg Posted December 30, 2014 Author Report Posted December 30, 2014 Silence the intake a little more.? It perhaps did, although that rectangular opening was still 'pretty big and wide open'! I believe the second reason though, was to standardize the R2 air filter housings across the Hawk ,Lark, and Avanti lines.
