mfg Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Then Studebaker President Sherwood Egbert's main criticism when seated in the Avanti design 'body buck' was a serious lack of legroom.....True?
Gunslinger Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 False...the tall Egbert banged his head getting in the mock-up and ordered more headroom be made. That resulted in a more vertical windshield (angled just perfect for bugs to squash rather that deflect off...like the front end).

Guest dapy Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 As father of the Avanti what killed him and when?
Gunslinger Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Egbert died of cancer...1969 I believe.
plwindish Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 The Avanti offers the most legroom of any car I have ever had. I love to drive my 76 because one can really stretch your legs in it. My Cafaro 89 Avanti, however does not share the same amount of legroom space. The foot wells were shortened and narrowed up in the 89 as I have trouble getting my # 13 shoe past the left side of the brake peddle to stretch out my leg.
