On the 'Mr Ed' TV show, Wilbur's next door neighbor, who occasionally was seen driving an Avanti, was called 'The Colonel'....True?

The one I saw the neighbor was not the Colonel - I'm pretty sure the Colonel was the FIRST neighbor.

OK..but if it wasn't 'The Colonel'...who was the character?

The first neighbors were "Addison" and his wife Kay. During the show's run the actor, Larry Keating, passed away and the new neighbor was the "Colonel", who was portrayed to be Wilbur's commanding officer when in the Air Force.

As far as which neighbor drove the Avanti I can't say. Addison was a cheapskate so it doesn't seem logical he would buy an Avanti, but since he was the first neighbor and Studebaker was sponsoring the show, I'll say it was him. The last season or two of the series Studebaker dropped their sponsorship and the show changed networks if I'm not mistaken.
