mfg
Unlike vehicles with newer automatic transmissions, a Studebaker Avanti with Powershift automatic trans can be push started due to its unique 'two stage' front pump....True?
Gunslinger
Don't know about the "two stage" front pump but the car can be push started.
Avanti83
IIRC the reason you can push start an automatic is the pump is powered off the tranny output so I would say false as the pump is located in the front. Don't know Stude tranny's but GM and Ford were that way early on and the number of stages shouldn't matter unless one was drive from the back. mfg
That's close enough for us Bob. An Avanti with Powershift automatic can be push started because this transmission is equipped with a 'rear pump'. (driven off the output shaft) Rear pumps were eliminated in most automatic transmissions back in the seventies. The Avanti automatic also has a 'front pump',of course,.....and it's a single stage affair.
