I need the outer window seal for an 89 Avanti. SI has them thru 1983, but not 89. Is the 89 door that different from the 83? Also who might have them, if not SI, and has anyone substituted "cat wiskers", for the rubber seal that is supposed to the used? Ken, Deltaville, Va. >Added Monday: Thanks for the help, I'm new to Avanti.

>NEW INFORMATION: I also need a boot for the convertible top which I exect to have made at a top shop. If anyone has picutres of how the boot is snapped down, I would appreciate seeing them. There are only two snaps on each side of the interior and that does not appear to be adequate. I would expect to see snaps on the curved exterior trim piece at the top of the rear trunk area, but instead that trim piece is secured with counter sink set screws.

Look under "1988 Window Sweeks" in the '84-91 (this forum) page 4. Note: You must view 'options' at the bottom of page and request ALL posts (not just the one's currently showing).

For my '88, I bought a length of universal GM stainless with rubber bonded to it and cut it to length. It would rquire some drilling and bending but the end result was factory looking. The whiskers won't keep the water out so I wouldn't recommend them. Go to Restoration Specialties Website they have full size pictures and measurements. I don't recall what I bought and I sold the '88 but there's not that many choices for GM late 80's cars.

Here's some pictures of a leftover piece. You will need to cut some relief slits so the straight piece will conform to the curves of the Avanti door. You won't have to bend it much and once you cut the slits it will fit the door perfectly.

Did anyone answer you on the boot cover?? I have an 89 convertible. If you send me a note I will send you pictures of my cover, and how it attaches.

I too need the outer window seal and am going to buy the Restoration Specialties item YMR255X Their catalog Page 14, and see how that works.

michael, pardon the delay, just checked my post, had a boot made using photo sent by a couple of owners. As to window sweeps, Restoration Specialists sent sample of their sweeps, did not match that well. When I was looking for a ready made boot, I came across Convertible Top Specialists, in Lakeland Fl, 800 272 2394, who said they were familiar with avanti and if i sent the original piece they think they can match. They also sell window sweps. Did not want to do this in middle of car show season but plan on doing it this winter. Ken, Deltavile, Va
