  1. Concerning the very early introduction of the 1963 Studebaker Avanti.....a 'key' chaacter in that play once said...."I wonder if it wouldn't have been better (wonder if Avanti sales would have gone smoother) if we had waited until the normal introduction time in the fall of 1962"?......Who said this?

  2. Paul, From what I've experienced over the years, automotive silicone sealer products have no effect whatsoever on fully cured paint.....If silicone sealer is applied to paint that isn't fully cured or hardened, well, that is a mistake,....... and the silicone sealer would indeed 'pull' that area of paint off with it if removed.

  3. "The pin that prevents the races from spinning!!".......True enough!....... (If we break down the supercharger system components into their various individual parts....which was not the intent of this question)

ANSWER.....The lever arm and shaft which connects the throttle bellcrank rod to the carb is the same on both these distinctly different setups..(R3--'57 GH)!

  4. Years ago, a girl I knew was checking out a Studebaker Avanti which I had just purchased. I started the engine up and she said "Yes, that SOUNDS like a real Avanti allright'....and she was hearing and talking about the fan noise...Studebaker Avantis have a lot of 'fan roar', and with the thin insulation and fiberglass firewall, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it!

PS....Don't purchase the replacement six blade fan our vendors sell....It DOES lower engine temp...but it's REALLY loud!!!

And the quiet mufflers are considerably quieter than the 'straight through' glasspack types....which are probably on your Avanti now.

Hope you enjoy your new ride!!

  5. Can anyone think of a component part of a Studebaker Avanti R3 supercharger system which is EXACTLY interchangeable with the one used on a 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk supercharger system?

(Not speaking about 'nuts and bolts' here!!)

  6. A stuck needle in the PCV could theoretically do this. (quite a stretch) But as brad suggested, the 3/4" air filter hose should relieve any build up of air pressure...He also mentioned if that 3/4" hose were blocked off the potential could be there....which I agree...Anyway, GAWen gets the kudos on this question!

  7. Great answers,...but we do have a bit of a conflct here....In my opinion, (for whatever that's worth), the answer here is FALSE!...Why?...because it can be done WITHOUT removing said crossmember.....which the question stated HAD TO GO!!

PS....Looks to me like someone's having a great time in that photo!

  8. Actually Geoff, Factory chromed Avanti valve covers and breather caps have, in most cases, stood the test of time fairly well. (In my opinion!)

HINT....I'm speaking of a part that started to fail SOON after the car was built!

  9. UPDATE on this trivia question.......I phoned an auto body paint supply house yesterday that sells 'PPG'. I was told that the 'Avanti Gold' color itself would most probably be exactly the same from either mix....but 'Poly' would indicate the second formula (mix) may stand up to the elements (sun, rain) longer than the first one would. (More durable paint) This info is probably correct, as I do remember that factory paint jobs on original Studebaker Avantis painted 'Avanti Gold' seemed to 'wash out' (fade) rather quickly.

  10. True...the initial intent was to use quad headlights...the idea was dropped due to cost. This was...to my eye at least...where cost-cutting made for a better look. The drawings with quads didn't look as good.

That being said, quads would likely have made for brighter lighting which has generally been considered poor.

Yes, there's NO WAY I can picture an Avanti with four smaller round headlights (which I assume they would have used back in '63) looking any good at all!
