  1. brad, I completely agree on the negatves you mention concerning lacquer paint.....But why is it still sought out and purchased by very selective paint shops and/or their customers?....Because under critical lighting, say in a large auditorium, NOTHING but NOTHING compares to the look of lacquer.....For durability, it's the wrong paint to use....But for outstanding 'show car' appearance...it really has no equal!!

(now brad, don't argue with me about this unless your willing to be called a 'DRAMA QUEEN'....er....'KING'!!!!!!)

  2. I also have seen 2O,OOO in print somewhere....perhaps the Lamberti papers states for sure?

20,000!!...They may have hoped for that amount of Avantis or more,.....but considering the size of the operation, and what they were up against....I believe one of the figures offered in the opening question to be more realistic!......Anyone else?

  3. Derale makes an electronic fan speed controller that varies the fan speed according to engine temperature. Not cheap, but worth it.

It's called a PWM which is short for pulse width modulation. The hotter the temp the longer the voltage pulses to the electric fan, and the faster it turns.

This way it's not just off or on.

    Wow!.....isn't technology wonderful??

  4. The post title says it.

Oh,...OK,...I start most of my Avanti Trivia question titles with Avanti this or Avanti that,........Attention getter??.....Anyway, the question itself is clear enough....don't you think?

  5. be careful with cameras. cameras can only identify the colors that are in their data base, which is most MODERN car colors. they can't "come close". having to match many Indian MC colors (1914-1950's), I found bring the sample to the color book is always best. But I think a 1963 color code should be available.

If it's of any help to you, I can supply you with the original tint colors, and amounts of each tint, for the automotive color 'Studebaker Avanti Turquoise'. However, this would be to formulate lacquer paint. (Which I personally prefer for a couple of reasons)

  6. Correct answer!...This jives with the little bit of info I had on this......Very interesting how you reworked the fuel pressure gauge for safety!

(Can you tell us if the gauges were installed in an 'EX' Avanti?....Or maybe one of the R3 cars?...Thanks)

  7. The extremely rare Paxton gauge cluster, which was installed in at least one of the 'EX' Studebaker Avantis, and also a few of the Bonneville cars, consisted of three gauges....what were those three gauges functions?

  8. Please play nice, gentlemen - I saw no reason to take offense at Brad's #11 comment and I, for one, HIGHLY value his expertise in the Avanti field and would miss his ability to share his wealth of knowledge on this or any other forum. If he was closer he would be my go-to guy to take the best care of my Avanti...nuf said...Bob (63R-3062)

Brad is very knowledgeable. However, I brought forward a simpler way to accomplish the same task. He compared my idea of installing barrel nuts on the bezel pins and pushing them onto the body from the ouside akin to adding sawdust to a rear axle to quiet it down....I took offense to that. Wouldn't you?... This wasn't the first time he's acted in this fashion, and I felt he needed a 'spank'....since then, he's behaved himself.....and that's the REST OF THE STORY!
