  2. Aardvark, I’d respond similarly in person. Of course, in person, we’d use our real names. Forums actually allow more time to write a response. It’s astounding that someone would be disturbed by a couple of folks discussing Avanti values in a thread with “Avanti Values” in the title. In person, I’d probably ask “What did you think we were going to talk about?” For someone who tells others they need to respect differing opinions yet fails to do so themselves, I’d call them a hypocrite. For someone who repeatedly takes jabs at a conversation because they believe it is pointless, I might suggest that they find someone else to talk to and strike up their own conversation. In between the disruptive posts, there has been a rational conversation. Now that I’ve deployed the ignore feature, perhaps it can continue without further interruption.
  3. I reckon the Fan Shroud might well have needed tweaking so Ill say yes to that, but two inches of shim..... I'll say no to that.
  4. Sheesh.. I edited out what I was going to say. It is always interesting what people will say to each other when not face to face, but instead on Internet. Civility gets lost.
  5. Right back to all.
  6. He has a 63 round light. Drop me a pm and I’ll get his contact info for you.
  7. SCPO-PD, Your under hood detailing looks great. What's your source (brand, paint code or color name) for your paint. I'm about to detail my 77. It's listed in the glove box as Silver Moondust Metallic but I can't find anything under that name. Thx. Steve

    Avanti Values?

    Ignore.
  9. Here’s the deal. You can’t tell others what they should do. I’m not sure if you’re a moron or just want to argue. I just bought the damn car and it is being worked on so that I can drive it to the Gilmore for the Wednesday drive ins. I may drive it to the Studebaker Museum next summer. I don’t really care what it’s worth. Are you listening?

    Avanti Values?

Hmmm…..Such an “inane” comment! I suspect you are smart enough to serve up more than “platitudes”! (Above are Bob Preston’s own 50 cent words he sent my way) Bob, all you & aardvark have spoken about is Avanti monetary values, and inaccurate ‘1 to 10’ condition estimations….Perhaps you should get out on the road and enjoy your Avanti…. instead of fretting over what it might be worth? The value I receive from my ‘63 Avanti R2 is the pleasure I get out of driving and showing it… you should try it! And please do not respond… This is REALLY getting old!
  11. Good gravy, mfg, I’m not sure if you’re not listening, confused or both. What has you convinced that I might sell my “product” for a profit? If I go first, my wife is going to donate my car collection to The Gilmore Car Museum. Get over yourself. Why are grown men so sensitive?

    Avanti Values?

In reviewing my posts on this thread, I attempted to steer perspective Avanti buyers towards a common sense way of making a purchase. I believe I made my point, although it did fall on a few deaf ears. I sure hope Bob and aardvark enjoy driving their ‘products’ before they sell them off, hopefully achieving financial success. I’d add that if a perspective purchaser cannot travel long distance to see an Avanti he/she is interested in, then hiring an automotive appraisal service, or knowledgeable AOAI club member to evaluate the car would be, in my opinion, an excellent idea. Good luck to all!
  13. Necessary clearance to install Chevy V8’s under the hood of Avanti ll’s was achieved by shimming the body up from the chassis about 2”, and also redesigning the engine fan shroud…True?
  14. I’d call you quitters but you keep posting.

    Avanti Values?

Sorry aardvark… and you can place me on the list of ‘sellers’ if I’m ever reduced to describing Avanti automobiles, vehicles that have become a big part of my life, as “PRODUCTS”!
  17. I stated this thread as an opinion point, to hopefully list some common sense to help buy and sell our products. Last thing I expected is a pissing match on said issues. Sorry MFG... I said I was out but this needed said. Now I'm out.

    Avanti Values?

And yes… I agree it’s time to stop chasing tails!!

    Avanti Values?

I’ve presented common sense… you simply aren’t listening friend!
  20. Well, if we say it can’t be done, then we’re all quitters aren’t we? It’s pretty easy to shoot down every idea and it’s even easier to not present any solutions. Maybe it is time to move on.

    Avanti Values?

I will add…I believe we can all agree that using a 1-10 ‘average’ rating really doesen’t work when considering the purchase of a 60+ year old collector vehicle… As has already been said a few times on this thread,….Your opinion of what constitutes a #5 condition 1963 Avanti may vary greatly from my opinion…… or the next guys opinion.
  22. mfg

    Avanti Values?

Yes, I agree, you probably are too demanding…. In my humble opinion, when one is considering buying a 60+ year old collector car for good money, (no matter what the advertised condition is), buying it sight unseen is a no-no….. I’d have to inspect the vehicle personally to feel comfortable… even, I suppose, if it means purchasing an airline ticket.
  23. To be clear, I saw 6’s that were/are priced in the mid-$50K’s. There are a few recent listings in the $70K’s. Those would have to be near Trailer Queen quality, in my opinion to justify those prices. My limited buying experience has shown that the hype in the description rarely matches the actual condition of the vehicle. Maybe I’m too demanding to think that both power windows should work, the tires shouldn’t have flat spots and the car shouldn’t pull to one side while braking on a car that’s priced like it might win best in show. Prices do seem to be trending upward on the 63-64’s, at least the ones listed online.

    Avanti Values?

OK!!!…all’s well that ends well… Glad everyone’s happy… Time to move on!
  26. I believe that all the transition Avantis were round headlight, and that R-4892 was the first square-headlight car. As nearly as I can tell from the pix the square headlight enclosures are sitting on top of the fiberglass, not recessed into it as the square-headlight cars are. I have seen that done before to '63 Avantis. Not surprising, then, that someone has added "Supercharged" emblems to the fenders of an R1 car. --Dwight
  27. Doesn't have a supercharger...
