M&M Posted December 29, 2018 Report Posted December 29, 2018 I am looking at buying a 81 Avanti and need to let the seller know soon. I was hoping someone would be kind enough to decipher the Vin # in order to let me know more about the car before I pull the plug. The Vin # is 12AAV1237B1003276 thank you
Gunslinger Posted December 29, 2018 Report Posted December 29, 2018 That VIN doesn't tell you much beyond it's an Avanti and it's a '81 model year. Even though it has the 17-digit VIN required by the feds beginning in '81 it wasn't like other manufacturers where the VIN would decode the model, engine, etc. Avanti only made one model then...a coupe with one engine option. The other differences between cars was trim, fabrics, leather, etc., but nothing included in the VIN. It will also have an "RQB" number which used to be the serial number but after the feds required the 17-digit VIN is only an in-house accounting number.
M&M Posted December 29, 2018 Author Report Posted December 29, 2018 I found out that the last for digits of the vin # is the RQB # Thanks for your response!
