One aspect of the early days at Avanti Motors was refurbishing Studebaker Avantis which were traded in or sent back by owners of these cars.

The first Studebaker'289' internal engine part Avanti Motors ran short of was........?.......

1) crankshafts......2) pistons......3) lifters......or......4) camshafts

I'll say it was pistons...they weren't stock Studebaker parts...R engine only.  I bought a NOS R1/R2 camshaft and lifter set from Avanti Motors in the later 1970s.
