If you have a local auto electrical shop why not have it rebuilt?  That way you'll know it will fit and will cost less.  If you want a replacement, it should be the same as the year small block Chevy plus it should have some ID numbers on its casing.

Sadly the only shop i have around me is only mechanical. They won't touch anything with wires. And the one I do have is called Iron Horse Classics and they are always booked up up to like 2 months in advance..

Try going to a speed shop and look into a high torque mini-starter.  These are likely somewhat more expensive than a rebuilt unit from a retailer but are smaller, lighter and will crank faster.  Several performance manufacturers make them.  You can look them over at Summit Racing or Jeg's websites.

Go to your local parts store and ask them who installs Chevy starters. I'll bet they'll give you a suggestions. Probably the most available part for a chevy V8 is a starter and very inexpensive from a parts house.

If all else fails,  Any Chevy dealer can do it.
