Sorry, the L69 engine is incorrect.

Since the L69 came out for 1984 and that is the incorrect answer, the correct answer is probably that Avanti used the older engine, which was the LG4.

That is exactly right!....The L69 came into use AFTER the production run of 50 Touring Coupes, when the Touring Coupe package became an option.
