scottsewall
How can you tell if an automatic transmission is from an Avanti? Is there a casting number of serial number on the plate that can be used? Thanks! -- Scott
lschuc
here is photo of the powershift automatic used in a Studebaker Avanti, along with the transmission identifying tag. These were made by Borg-Warner and are similar to what was used in Fords and AMC. But in Ford and AMC, the valve bodies are different and some use a vacuum modulator. studegary
I think that you can only identify it as a Powershift that was used in either an Avanti or a floor shift Lark type. The Powershift and heavy duty automatics had coolant lines (not just air cooled). The Powershift automatic has its shift lever pointing up.
