A83 Posted March 12, 2016 Report Share Posted March 12, 2016 Second year in a row I noticed red transmission fluid on the garage floor underneath my 83 _ fairly good amount plus it happened once during the summer. Avanti83 Posted March 12, 2016 Report Share Posted March 12, 2016 Need a bit more info. Front, rear, middle, under yoke, leaking down pan or at the cooling line connections.. The most common places to leak are the pan, speedo cable seal and rear yoke. Pray it's one of them. Get it up in the air and look it over. Report back, as it's tough to diagnose without much info. dynolou2 Posted March 16, 2016 Report Share Posted March 16, 2016 Here is what happens,because we don't drive them daily or store them all winter the fluid in the torque converter drains back into the case raising the fluid level in the unit . You can check this by checking the fluid level after the car has cooled off from a drive -not running,take a scribe and mark the level, wait a few days and check level again if it shows above your scribe mark you have drainback. When the case fills the fluid will find its way out the least tight sealing surface manual shaft,case connector, pan gasket, speedometer o ring and or seal , throttle pressure cable are the most common spots. dynolou2 Posted March 19, 2016 Report Share Posted March 19, 2016 Was this a leaky rear seal? How was the fit of the yoke in the rear bushing? There should be almost no up or down movement of the yoke. The rear bushings do wear. If you have the 4 speed automatic, you can use the up graded rear bushing that is bronze it has dimples in it that allow for more lubrication.
