plwindish Posted February 16, 2016 Report Share Posted February 16, 2016 I had a cruise installed on my 76 that had been updated with a 200R4 trans around 4 years ago and its been ok. I'd have to look to see what the brink of cruise is was, Dakota doesn't ring a bell with me. At first it was sensitive and hitting a bump would release it or it would just drop off cruise going up a slight grade, but the bugs have been ironed out and its been working fine. I have gotten 27.5 mpg with the 400/ 200R4/3:31 combination if I keep it at 65, but what's the fun in that? It cruises very nicely between 72 and 75 and still deliver 21 - 22 mpg. WayneC Posted February 17, 2016 Report Share Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) If the kit is a universal fit and doesn't require an electronic speedo or HEI ignition, it should work fine. I did it many years back in a '66 Avanti I've long since sold, but unfortunately the Dana kit I used is long out of production. It used a magnet (attached to the driveshaft) and sensor, with a vacuum bellows in the engine compartment, a mechanical vacuum dump switch on the brake pedal linkage, a small electronic control box under the dash, and a replacement turn signal lever similar to those used by GM in that time period. It was not particularly hard to install, and worked fine. I do not recall if it had a "resume" or "accel" capability like modern cars, though, it may have only had an on/off switch and a speed set switch. Closest thing now is probably this Audiovox CCS-100 kit (and I doubt these are still in production): http://tinyurl.com/j3zer9r I wouldn't like that button control box, however... one can probably still find old 70's GM cars in junkyards that might have the column-mounted turn signal/cruise levers that could be adapted. Apparently some Dakota Digital setups use the same lever... wildfelr Posted April 14, 2016 Author Report Share Posted April 14, 2016 RQB3263....81 AVANTI II....I JUST FINISHED INSTALLATION OF MY ROSTA cruise control system....It works exactly as described that being perfect....however it was a royal pain in the ass to install and required several calls to tech support as the install instructions are confusing and or inadequate...but... the tech support was great....my biggest problem (other than reading the directions) was the need for a good ground....once i wired the ground back to the battery neg. terminal all worked fine.....the instructions fail to show the connection of 6 wires in the kit ,,,,once tech straightened me out on that and a good ground all functioned fine...BILL RQB3263 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
