Stormy Posted May 27 Report Posted May 27 (edited) This week my son and I went to the barn to start our 63/64 Avanti R1. My son , who has been overseas for a dozen years,, is my partner on this more or less time capsule. It has original paint, carpet, and upholstery , as well as mechanics. All in very fine shape. There was some worry that starting up might be hard, but after connecting the 3EE battery ,after two key turns the Avanti produced a start and even idle. I guess I just want to express my relief that all is ok. Daryl Edited May 27 by Stormy
ronmanfredi Posted May 27 Report Posted May 27 You should post this on our virtual car show under 63-64
mfg Posted May 29 Report Posted May 29 Good for you and your son… And your Avanti looks great… Just be sure that the brakes feel OK!
Stormy Posted May 29 Author Report Posted May 29 mfg, thanks. The brakes were fine. Even the old am radio came on with some distant country song. We live a ways from a town. The only thing that didn't work right was the clock.
cursed avanti Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 If the clock worked at all, I would buy a Lottery ticket!
DobbM Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I have the Avanti White lacquer as well. What color is your inside? Mine is Royal Orange. One of my winter projects is to get the clock to work. I contacted Instrument Services (clocksandgauges.com) in Illinois about my 63 R1 clock, and he said he doesn't work on those nor does he sell parts for it. 🤷♂️ I'm going to convert it to a 12v A23 battery (https://amzn.to/4uU3SUV) that is wired closer to the fuse panel so that it's easy to replace, and it's not reliant on the 3EE, as I routinely disconnect it at the terminal (https://amzn.to/4vPf8Tf). I'll be sure to document my trials and tribulations. (My other winter project is to replace the rusty gas tank that is giving my 2 inline filters something to do and racking hell on the carb.)
