Hogtrough Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Working on my windows ('63 R1, manual windows). The lift bar on passenger side was bent, I reinforced it and am ready to reassemble- but not sure how to get the spring loaded "bar", seen hanging in the access hole here, over to the two attachment holes on the right. Not sure what the correct order of assembly is and don't have the shop manual. Any help appreciated.
mfg Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Just keep cranking regulator until that channel moves into place,, it should line itself up fairly closely… The holes in fiberglass are slotted to allow you to make final window adjustments.
Hogtrough Posted March 18 Author Report Posted March 18 So when the holes are about lined up, will the spring be uncompressed or compressed? Should I have the 3 bolts in the triangle shaped piece above the spring while trying to do this?
brad Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 You can get them installed wrong on the opposite sides, so keep track of which is which. After the crank part is installed, then the center idler plate is screwed to the door with the three very short bolts. Anything longer will hit the transfer arm that was bent and bind it up. Then crank the regulator all the way to the top, and then line up the forward bolt of the short track. then reach in and push on the short track to line up the 2nd bolt hole. If you try to do it with the regulator down, the spring pressure is much greater, and injury is more possible. What you want is the spring to wind up and exert more pressure as the window is lowered. That counterbalances the weight of the glass and frame.
Hogtrough Posted March 18 Author Report Posted March 18 Thanks Brad and MFG, very helpful info. I reinforced the bar on the side facing the outside, added probably a half inch of thickness with the bolts, hopefully it doesn't interfere with any other components
