Concerning Studebaker Avantis and Avanti ll’s built thru 1985,…..What item on the car did not work as designed when the factory (and also Avanti owners) switched from bias ply to radial tires?

Power steering? Or lack of power steering as in manual steering.

Not really… both manual and power steering equipped Avantis steered normally with either types of tires… although sometimes big arm muscles helped!

Other thoughts on this trivia question?

Wheels not able to handle the flexing that radial tires can cause.  A side effect is wheel covers not staying on properly...

YOU GOT IT!…. A bit frustrating that the Avanti spare tire cover cannot be latched down as designed… even using the ‘modest’ P20575R-15 radial tire.
