Nelson
Where was the air cleaner located on the first R3 prototype Avanti? This is a rerun p/continuation of the question I posed in another/incorrect section of the forum. Sorry.
mfg
Hmmm!… I’m a bit confused by the question (what’s new!!)…. I think we are speaking of which was the first pre- production (EX) Stude Avanti fitted at Paxton with an R3 (probably 299CI) engine?… I believe 63R1025 had the air cleaner assy up in front of the radiator, however, of course, that Avanti wasn’t a EX car. Anyway, my guess is there was no air filter, other than possibly a screen to keep the rocks out?
mfg
As an aside…. I don’t believe the Due Cento R5 Avanti had air cleaners fitted onto its twin Paxton’s… Am I wrong about that?
Geoff
Could it have possibly been in the space between inner and outer fender? Ed you're correct, 1025's air filter housing was in front of the radiator, below the bumper's height.
Nelson
Geoff has it right. I should have said the HR road test R3 Avanti as there were others. So, 1016’s air cleaner was in the cavity between the inner and outer fender. The air to the air cleaner came from the front grill opening and yes there was a screen over that opening. 1016 was not assigned an EX #.
mfg
Crude but effective!….Really not so different from the method Avanti Motors used on the ‘84-‘85 models. (and perhaps later?)
